What is my Skin Type?

May 22, 2015 by admin Leave a Comment

The starting point of adequately taking care of the skin is answering the question of, What is my skin type? Indeed when this question is answered it becomes very easy to recommend and administer a comprehensive skin care solution. Every person has a specific skin type which is constantly evolving as it depends on one’s age and hormones, a person’s skin type also depends on other external factors such as the climatic conditions of the place where you live which includes exposure to heat, temperature, heat and pollution. Lifestyle and day to day habits also affects a person’s skin type. In other to be able to choose a cosmetic product or an anti aging skin care products, we will define the skin’s physiology. The skin’s physiology can be categorized in simple terms as either oily, dry combination skin or sensitive skin.

Dry skin

The dry skin is usually thin, beautiful and without pores. This skin type does come with it’s own challenges, because of the skin tightness it usually a lot of discomfort associated with dry skin. It is also less flexible compared to normal skin and is prone to become rough, dull and blush. Diving deeper into the physiology of dry skin we find out the reason for it’s dry and tight nature. Firstly the stratum corneum in dry skin cells is dehydrated, and also the hydrolipic film which is on the surface is too thin to adequately protect the skin and lastly the sebum in this skin type is missing. To adequately compensate for all these, there is the need for a regular application of appropriate skin care. This will nourish and restore the radiance and suppleness of your dry skin.

Oily skin

The grains of this skin type are thicker, the pores are dilated and the general appearance of the skin is dull, fat and sleek. This type of skin is conducive to buttons and blackheads and excess sebum which in the long-term causes permanent thickening of the horny layer. This skin can be both fatty and out of water, that is to say, be dehydrated. Oily skin is fragile and requires care that is tailored to it’s needs. If mattifying and other serums blur creams are what fits it, products that are too abrasive don’t go well with this skin type, and can ignite and cause an increase sebum. Oily skin must be treated gently.

Combination skin

This skin type tends to be dry where sebaceous glands are rare, particularly areas around jaw, cheekbones and temples, cheekbones, and on the face’s central-axis of the combination skin type becomes oily, the central axis includes the chin and the nose. It could be quite daunting deciding on the right cosmetics or anti-aging skin care regimen for combination skin.
This is why it is such a good thing that there are now cosmetic moisturizers that combine assets and re-balancing components to regulate the level of sebum. As oily or dry skin, you should apply moisturizers moisturizers that are non-greasy and cleansing milks, although you can also apply a rich cream on those parts of the skin that are drier.

Sensitive skin

Research has shown that about 20% of women have a real problem with skin sensitivity and another 40% frequently experience skin tightness and discomfort. Whether dry, oily or combination, all skin-types can be sensitive as well. Skin sensitivity may result in unwanted redness, tingling and burning. Factors that can trigger skin reactions in sensitive skin are quite a handful: the application of cosmetics, climatic variations, certain foods, stress and even water or simply the effects of some clothing fabric rubbing on the skin can trigger a sensitive reaction of the skin.

Cosmetics meant for sensitive skin are unscented and hypoallergenic products which limit the risk of allergies and mild cleansing lotions or even thermal water misters. The micro-circulation regulators which provide soothing and protective care for the skin are recommended.

The best Anti Aging skin care Regimen

November 21, 2014 by admin Leave a Comment

Aging is a natural and inevitable part of life, but the passing years don’t have to leave their footprints in your skin. Genetics play a large part in how you will show the effects of aging, but a good basic skin care regimen can go a long way to helping you keep the kind of youthful glow that reflects who you are rather than how long you’ve been here. Regardless of your skin type, these tips will help restore the glow to your skin. In this guide, we examine the best Anti Aging skin care Regimen and practices for healthy skin.

Good skin care starts on the inside. One of the first signs of even the mildest dehydration is dry, lifeless skin. Drinking between 32 and 64 ounces of water every day helps your blood cells carry oxygen more effectively to your skin, which is the largest organ you have. Coffee, tea and other beverages also help but water is best. If you don’t like it plain, add flavorings such as lemon, lime or grapefruit wedges, cinnamon sticks or mint leaves. The more water you drink, the fresher your skin will look and the more elasticity it will retain.

Feed your skin a diet high in the nutrients it uses to repair and replenish itself. Vitamin-A is a skin cell superfood that is found in low-fat dairy foods. Antioxidants fight the free radicals that attack cells and break down their structure. These are found in leafy green vegetables and dark, colorful fruits such as blueberries, strawberries and plums. Eat a diet high in fruits, vegetables, nuts and healthy fats like that found in avocados and salmon to protect your skin’s internal structure.

Taking care of your skin’s surface is the final step in any effective anti aging skin care regimen. Wash your face with a mild cleanser when you wake up, using lukewarm water because hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel rather than rubbing it to protect the fragile tissue. Apply a moisturizer that contains retinol or hyaluronic acid. If your moisturizer does not have SPF protection built in, apply a sunscreen before you put on your foundation, if you wear makeup.

Apply makeup gently without pulling, tugging or stretching your skin. This is especially important around your eyes, where the skin is more fragile. Wash your makeup brushes in mild baby soap twice a month if you wear makeup every day and once a month if you only wear it for special occasions.

Always remove your makeup before you go to bed, even on New Year’s Eve. Sleeping in your makeup can clog your pores, leaving your skin lifeless and dry, which makes you look tired and older than you are. It can also lead to breakouts. Use a gentle makeup remover such as baby oil on a cotton ball to remove mascara and long-wearing eyeliner or shadow. Cleanse your face gently, rinse with warm water, pat your skin dry and apply a deep moisturizer.

Developing effective skin care habits when you are young will definitely make a difference over time. Wear sunscreen every day and avoid tanning when you are young and your face will retain its elasticity and unlined appearance far into your golden years.
